Immigration News: JESUIT MINISTRIES IN WASHINGTON STATE, HOST VIGIL IN SUPPORT OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT WORKERS.

BY ISN STAFF | June 15,  On June 9 and 10, for two hours each evening, Jesuit ministries in Seattle, Spokane, and Tacoma, Washington hosted a virtual prayer vigil calling for support of and financial relief for undocumented workers in Washington State during COVID-19. The vigils follow on the heels of a letter released by Jesuit ministries last month calling on Washington Governor Inslee to take urgent action to create a fund for workers left out of federal COVID-19 relief. This effort was initially promoted by the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) in a letter to the Governor and legislative leaders, signed by over 430 organizations across Washington including several Jesuit organizations.

The following statement was issued by the Jesuit Migration Network on March 17, 2020, in response to COVID-19 crisis worldwide, including in the Americas.

We start from the certainty that today, more than ever, we live in times that require the highest personal and collective willingness as well as scientific, responsible and timely action in each country and an absolute commitment to leave no one “outside.” In dealing with issues of forced migration, often certain realities are set to one side and those who flee their countries are scapegoated or denied essential basic services. That is why, as the Jesuit Migration Network (RJM), we express our stance at a moment where we all need one another.    LINK TO ARTICLE HERE:  AND HERE:
