Nancy Pelosi Allowed The Radical Progressives In Her Own Party To Push Her To Make The Worst Strategic Mistake In Modern Political History

Nancy Pelosi knows this will not be popular. She knows more than that. She knows that it will be a disaster for the Democratic Party, that it will inflame the president's base and inspire even his most lukewarm supporters with a sense of outrage. She knows that in states like Michigan, upon which her party's chances in 2020 will depend, the question of impeachment does not poll well. She knows, further, that Joe Biden will not be able to spend the next 14 or so months refusing to answer questions about the activities of his son, Hunter, in Ukraine, and that increased scrutiny of the vice president's record in office will not rebound to his credit.

Nancy Pelosi will try to sleep tonight, but sleep will likely not come as she tosses and turns, contemplating the enormous mistake the normally shrewd and calculating House Speaker was pushed into making. Over and over in her mind, she will see images of a now highly-energized Trump base fully locked in and ready for battle. She will also see the gut-wrenching and pathetic images of the multiple failures incurred by Democrats as they tried in vain to stop Trump. Hillary…Russian Collusion…The Mueller Report…each and every one a resounding fail. And she knows in her heart that impeachment against the president will also not succeed. But she allowed The Squad and all the other young hotheads to push her off her game plan, and here we are.
