"The Apostles' Creed?" Is it?
BASED ON THE NICENE CREED, But
the old Roman Catholic/Vatican version
turned it into something the HOLY BIBLE
does not teach and indeed, ADDS to God's
Word.
Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV)
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book
As a (very!) former Roman Catholic,
and a Bible believing Christian for many
years now, I was always bothered and indeed, repulsed, by several things in the (so called) Apostles' Creed.
In Roman Catholic teaching, "The communion of the saints" means the following: READ HERE: (YOU WILL BE SHOCKED!)
"He descended into HELL?"
Apparently the clause first appeared in the East with
Sirmium's fourth formula in 359—also called the "Dated Creed"— though
the Eastern church rejected it as tinged with Arianism. The first
mention of the descent in the West occurs in the writings of Rufinus of
Aquileia, who included it in his baptismal creed around 400. Over time,
the Latin church appropriated it as well, officially integrating it into
the Creed in 750.
Christians have long been troubled over what the descent
actually means. Augustine, for example, believed that CHRIST LITERALLY DESCENDED INTO HELL. But in his letter to Evodius, he admits several
uncertainties over the meaning of 1 Peter 3:19, which says that Jesus
preached to those "spirits ...
How could the HOLY, Spotless Son of God, be even associated with HELL, let alone "descending into it? This is a wicked teaching and NOT in the Bible or the NICENE CREED.
God’s revealed truth divides men; but it also is the only basis of
Christian unity. As Christian believers, we are to confess the same
things, to speak the same words, to believe the same propositions
regarding God, man, and salvation. Further, those confessions are what
set us apart from the world and the unorthodox. The Apostle Paul says in
1 Corinthians 1:10: “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among
you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in
the same judgment.” Among many other applications of this verse, it
gives creeds and confessions credence. God’s people, and only God’s
people, are “to join together in the same mind, in the same judgment,
speaking the same thing, without division.” Paul says Christians are to
be unified in thought, not in organization; unified by the words of our
great God of Truth. But if the words of a creed join together believer
and unbeliever, Protestant, Roman, Anglican, Liberal, and Greek, then
the creed has failed to achieve Christian unity, but has accomplished
the purpose of the enemy, who sows tares among wheat.
